Game of Thrones Season 7 Premiere Has Major Character Meet-Up

As winter once again comes to HBO and fans prepare for season 7 of Game of Thrones, it sounds like a major meeting is coming to Westeros. With the scattered allegiances of the show, it seems as though the season premiere will lead to a big team-up of fan-favorite characters.

With only 13 episodes left of the epic A Song of Ice and Fire saga, those who have survived the past six seasons will surely be looking to shore up their allies in the show’s final run. With the latest Game of Thrones trailer showing Queen Daenerys Targaryen with her feet finally on the dry land of Westeros, the Mother of Dragons’ mission toward the Iron Throne seems to be coming to its end. However, all bets are still on who (or what) will be ruling the realm at the end of season 8.

While all the cast is back and on their differing paths, according to EW‘s spoiler room, a major meeting of famous faces will be taking place in the first episode of season 7. Although the premiere is still without an official name, reporter Natalie Abrams gave us the scoop on what to expect whenGame of Thrones returns:

“Well, everything is being kept tightly under wraps — seriously, most of the photos that have been released are actually just from the premiere, so don’t make assumptions about the whole season based on those alone. But I will say that Dany’s journey to Dragonstone won’t be easy given that Euron is out there looking for her, and you can expect at least one major character meet-up in the first hour.”

So, with so few contenders left for the world’s most uncomfortable chair, let’s run through who could be crossing paths this time round.

JON SNOW AND DAENERYS TARGARYEN

Promotional pictures have already teased Daenerys at her family home of Dragonstone and that Jon Snow won’t be spending too much time among the home comforts of Winterfell, but could the duo really meet in the season premiere? It is expected that Jon will take his mission north to tackle the threat of White Walkers, but his journey could easily involve a detour via Dragonstone. With last season’s big reveal that Jon comes from Targaryen blood, it makes sense that he will meet with his aunt at some point. Fans are already shipping Jon and Daenerys to be the ultimate pairing of the show, but will their relationship may be purely business.

CERSEI LANNISTER AND EURON GREYJOY

With Theon and Yara Greyjoy finding themselves officially aligned with Team Daenerys, their Uncle Euron looks to make good on his vow of revenge. With actor Pilou Asbæk calling Euron the new Ramsay Bolton, he clearly has some dastardly deeds up his sleeve this year. As the Greyjoy siblings fled the Iron Islands in season 6, Euron began building the most formidable fleet his family had ever seen and set his sights on marrying Daenerys. However, Cersei Lannister currently holds the Iron Throne and the vast forces of the Lannister armies. Although it may seem like it is Cersei against the rest of the world, the might of Euron’s fleet could certainly help her solidify her shaky hold on the Seven Kingdoms.

JON SNOW AND THE STARK SISTERS

The final option is a more family-friendly affair and the long-awaited reuniting of the dispersed Stark clan. Season 6 ended with Arya Stark embracing her new faceless assassin persona and taking out the Freys at the Twins. With only a short ride to Winterfell, will the young Stark girl look to her family for help? The promo photos have already seen a large gathering of Northern houses at Winterfell and Sansa alongside Jon, but what is Arya’s plan for season 7? Sure, Arya and Sansa may not have always seen eye to eye, but with the sisters being apart since the close of season 1, their reunion is one the of show’s most-anticipated moments still to come. That being said, Game of Thrones could easily swing its scythe of death once more and never have the family see each other again.

Season 7 may have been shortened to just seven episodes – instead of its usual 10 – but showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are promising no shortage of action as the fantasy show winds down for its final run. With only a few weeks to go before Daenerys’ dragons take flight once more, the outlook for the premiere teases that it isn’t one to miss. Whether it be new friends, old enemies, or just bringing the family back together, the march of war is driving is certainly driving us forward in season 7. Prepare for the most action-packed season ofGame of Thrones yet
