Reboot/re-imagining; "an update for the present", per Sony execs. To be based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg. HOW X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX MAY USE MAGNETO

Whether it's Ian McKellen or Michael Fassbender wearing the maroon/purple-colored helmet, Magneto has been one of the X-Menfilm franchise's most important characters since the series launched in 2000. Fassbender's iteration of the Master of Magnetism will be back in the mix next year for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but as those who've readThe Dark Phoenix Saga know, Erik Lensherr wasn't involved in that original comic book tale. For the new movie adaptation, a new report claims that Magneto's participation will revolve around his new status as a cult leader.

Apparently Magneto will don a new costume in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and this redesign is meant to suggest "imagery commonly associated with cult leaders." No confirmed details were provided about who he is leading, although given Magneto's comic book history and the movie's early 1990s setting, it seems likely that we'll see the cinematic versions of the Acolytes, who were introduced to the comics in 1991. Nerdist also reports that X-Men: Dark Phoenix will introduce Genosha, the fictional country that enslaved mutants until Magneto took control and established the nation as a safe haven for mutants for many years. If Magneto has indeed gathered followers who ascribe to his ideology, Genosha is likely where they would establish a new home, free from persecution and discrimination.

When we last saw Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse, he had helped rebuild Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, but he didn't stay to help teach the students. Since X-Men movies producer Lauren Shuler Donner said back in March that future movies wouldn't touch on theCharles/Erik dynamic again, as that territory has been well explored over six movies, turning Magneto into a cult leader is an intriguing way to take him down a different path. Even though he turned his back on Apocalypse and prevented the world from being destroyed, Magneto didn't seem like he was ready to help humanity with the new X-Men team when Apocalypse ended. With a horde of followers clinging on to his every word, Magneto could then set up base in Genosha and build a society where mutants needn't worry about being mistreated by humans.

No official plot details for X-Men: Dark Phoenix have been revealed aside from the fact that we'll see Jean Grey be fully taken over by the Phoenix Force, just like in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. However, along with this report about Magneto's cult and Genosha, it's also been rumored that aliens could appear, specifically the Shi'ar Empire, which was involved in the original Dark Phoenix Saga. Along with Magneto and Jean Grey,X-Men: Dark Phoenix will see the return of Professor X, Mystique, Beast, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver.

Directed and written by Simon Kinberg, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be released on November 2, 2018.

Game of Thrones Season 7 Premiere Has Major Character Meet-Up

As winter once again comes to HBO and fans prepare for season 7 of Game of Thrones, it sounds like a major meeting is coming to Westeros. With the scattered allegiances of the show, it seems as though the season premiere will lead to a big team-up of fan-favorite characters.

With only 13 episodes left of the epic A Song of Ice and Fire saga, those who have survived the past six seasons will surely be looking to shore up their allies in the show’s final run. With the latest Game of Thrones trailer showing Queen Daenerys Targaryen with her feet finally on the dry land of Westeros, the Mother of Dragons’ mission toward the Iron Throne seems to be coming to its end. However, all bets are still on who (or what) will be ruling the realm at the end of season 8.

While all the cast is back and on their differing paths, according to EW‘s spoiler room, a major meeting of famous faces will be taking place in the first episode of season 7. Although the premiere is still without an official name, reporter Natalie Abrams gave us the scoop on what to expect whenGame of Thrones returns:

“Well, everything is being kept tightly under wraps — seriously, most of the photos that have been released are actually just from the premiere, so don’t make assumptions about the whole season based on those alone. But I will say that Dany’s journey to Dragonstone won’t be easy given that Euron is out there looking for her, and you can expect at least one major character meet-up in the first hour.”

So, with so few contenders left for the world’s most uncomfortable chair, let’s run through who could be crossing paths this time round.

JON SNOW AND DAENERYS TARGARYEN

Promotional pictures have already teased Daenerys at her family home of Dragonstone and that Jon Snow won’t be spending too much time among the home comforts of Winterfell, but could the duo really meet in the season premiere? It is expected that Jon will take his mission north to tackle the threat of White Walkers, but his journey could easily involve a detour via Dragonstone. With last season’s big reveal that Jon comes from Targaryen blood, it makes sense that he will meet with his aunt at some point. Fans are already shipping Jon and Daenerys to be the ultimate pairing of the show, but will their relationship may be purely business.

CERSEI LANNISTER AND EURON GREYJOY

With Theon and Yara Greyjoy finding themselves officially aligned with Team Daenerys, their Uncle Euron looks to make good on his vow of revenge. With actor Pilou Asbæk calling Euron the new Ramsay Bolton, he clearly has some dastardly deeds up his sleeve this year. As the Greyjoy siblings fled the Iron Islands in season 6, Euron began building the most formidable fleet his family had ever seen and set his sights on marrying Daenerys. However, Cersei Lannister currently holds the Iron Throne and the vast forces of the Lannister armies. Although it may seem like it is Cersei against the rest of the world, the might of Euron’s fleet could certainly help her solidify her shaky hold on the Seven Kingdoms.

JON SNOW AND THE STARK SISTERS

The final option is a more family-friendly affair and the long-awaited reuniting of the dispersed Stark clan. Season 6 ended with Arya Stark embracing her new faceless assassin persona and taking out the Freys at the Twins. With only a short ride to Winterfell, will the young Stark girl look to her family for help? The promo photos have already seen a large gathering of Northern houses at Winterfell and Sansa alongside Jon, but what is Arya’s plan for season 7? Sure, Arya and Sansa may not have always seen eye to eye, but with the sisters being apart since the close of season 1, their reunion is one the of show’s most-anticipated moments still to come. That being said, Game of Thrones could easily swing its scythe of death once more and never have the family see each other again.

Season 7 may have been shortened to just seven episodes – instead of its usual 10 – but showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are promising no shortage of action as the fantasy show winds down for its final run. With only a few weeks to go before Daenerys’ dragons take flight once more, the outlook for the premiere teases that it isn’t one to miss. Whether it be new friends, old enemies, or just bringing the family back together, the march of war is driving is certainly driving us forward in season 7. Prepare for the most action-packed season ofGame of Thrones yet

Wonder Woman Passes $700 Million At The Worldwide Box Office

Wonder Woman has already broken several records, yet it continues to impress, with the film having now broken $700 million at the worldwide box office. It’s no secret that Warner Bros. struggled to adapt the iconic superhero onto the big screen, with her finally receiving her highly-anticipated debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice last year, played by Gal Gadot.

Gadot reprised her role in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman last month, and the film has since enjoyed critical acclaim as well as an astounding run at the box office. So far, it garnered thehighest-grossing opening weekend for a female-directed film, and then it quickly became the largest solo female-directed release ever. Last week, the film surpassed every other DC Extended Universe installment —Man of SteelBatman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad — at the domestic box office, thereby becoming the third largest domestic release for a DC Comics movie, and that’s not all.

Wonder Woman has been in theaters for one month now, and it continues to show legs at the worldwide box office. Against new releases such as Baby Driver and Despicable Me 3, as well as going up against Transformers: The Last Knight‘s second weekend, Wonder Woman still managed to rake in another $15.57 million domestically and $13.6 million internationally, bringing its total cume to $708.4 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

Wonder Woman has caught up to, and is now neck-in-neck with, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales($708.7 million), both of which broke into the top 100 worldwide grosses ranking this weekend. Despite besting all the other DCEU movies domestically, Jenkins’ film still has far to go in order to beat Suicide Squad andBatman V Superman‘s worldwide grosses, though it looks like Diana Prince stands a chance at defeating Task Force X, whose worldwide gross sits at $745.6 million.

Although it seems unlikely that Wonder Woman will be able to surpass either the domestic or worldwide takes from Nolan’s later Batman films, there’s still th chance that the movie could become the highest-grossing superhero origin story ever at the domestic box office. It currently sits behind Deadpool ($363 million) andSpider-Man ($403 million), having already passed every other DC and Marvel movie – including each of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first chapters.

Considering everything that Wonder Woman had going against it leading into its summer release – negative DCEU perception, first female-led superhero movie of this scale, period war setting, and potential superhero fatigue — it’s astounding how well it has done and continues to do at the worldwide box office.
