Believe it or not, we're about to be eight movies into the Fast and the Furious franchise, but this time, the enemy comes from within.
The first trailer for The Fate of the Furious reveals that Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) turns his back on his family and fights against them. What would prompt such a dramatic development? Seems like a high-tech terrorist (Charlize Theron) finds a way to convince him. (We can see how she could be persuasive.)
According to the official synopsis: "When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can't seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, [the crew] will face trials that will test them as never before. From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world's stage… and to bring home the man who made them a family."
With Diesel now the bad guy, that probably provides more screen time for Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris as they try to bring their friend home in one piece. Meanwhile, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham both return to the mix, and can't be a bad thing.
The Fate of the Furious will arrive in theaters April 14, 2017.
