TOM HARDY LOST A BET TO LEONARDO DICAPRIO, AND IT INVOLVES A TATTOO

Alejandro Iñárritu's The Revenantmade history earlier this year by helping Leonardo DiCaprio bring home his first Oscar. It was a well-deserved win for the seasoned actor, but he wasn't the only one who delivered a stellar performance in the film. Tom Hardy also received an Oscar nomination for his role in the project, but he never expected such recognition would actually happen. As a result of this disbelief, Hardy ultimately lost a bet with his co-star, which resulted in him committing to getting DiCaprio's handwriting tattooed onto his body. Hardy explained:

He wrote, in this really shitty handwriting: 'Leo knows everything.' Ha! I was like, 'OK, I'll get it done, but you have to write it properly.'

Tom Hardy recently opened up in an interview with Esquire and explained a friendly wager he had with Leonardo DiCaprio on the set of this year's The Revenant. Apparently DiCaprio saw the genius in Hardy's work, because he asserted that his co-star would receive an Oscar nomination for his amazing performance as John Fitzgerald. Hardy (apparently not realizing how great his performance really was) took DiCaprio up on the wager, and the two agreed that the loser would receive a tattoo decided by the winner. Hardy ultimately lost, and as a result he will eventually have to receive the phrase "Leo knows everything" somewhere on his body -- as long as Leo wrote it in neat handwriting.

If I am being perfectly honest, I have absolutely no idea why Tom Hardy would ever take that wager. His take on John Fitzgerald in The Revenanthas unquestionably become one of the best supporting performances of the last year. Although the Oscar ultimately went to Mark Rylance for his role in Steven Spielberg's Bridge of Spies, nobody would have been surprised if Tom Hardy had walked away with the award that night. He was that good.

Of course, it's obviously worth noting that the wager probably didn't mean much to Tom Hardy in the first place. The guy is already covered in tattoos, so another piece of body art indicative of his work on an Oscar winning film probably wouldn't bother him very much.

Tom Hardy Warrior

Even from that angle, I have a feeling that "Leo knows everything" would probably get lost in the shuffle. At the end of the day, I think there is an insanely valuable lesson that we can all glean from this story. Never, under any circumstances, gamble with Leonardo DiCaprio; if you lose, there is a very good chance that you will have to permanently ink your body. Not everyone is as comfortable with that as Tom Hardy.
